The Drapac EF p/b Cannondale Holistic Development Team is set to continue their National Road Series campaign with this weekend’s Tour of Gippsland.
The four-day tour begins on Saturday with a European style kermesse around the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit. The tour then moves to Traralgon and Sale for two criterium stages, before ending with a 4.5kilometre uphill time-trial at Mount. Baw Baw.
Lining up for Drapac this weekend is team sprinter Theodore Yates, who is happy to be back racing with the team after being sidelined for much of 2018 with persistent health issues. Said Yates, “2018 has been a year of ups and downs for my health. I’ve missed getting amongst a racing peloton. After a few months away from racing, I’m super keen to get out with the boys and get stuck into some racing”.
Joining him is Liam White, Oliver Kent-Spark, Jesse Featonby, Alexander Smyth, and 2017 tour of Gippsland stage winner Sascha Bondarenko. Bondarenko won the Traralgon criterium stage last year and is hoping for a similar result this weekend. Said Sascha “The Tour of Gippsland brings back some great memories for me as it is where I won my first NRS stage last year. I’m really looking forward to getting out there with the boys, for what should be an exciting few days of racing”,
Team Sports Director Mark O’Brien is looking forward getting some more NRS results at the Tour of Gippsland, saying “I’m very excited about what the team achieve, as it’s the first time we’ve been able to field a team, with both a great sprinting and climbing option. I believe that we can go in aiming at stage wins as well as general classification and show everyone the level of where the team belongs”.
